General Details

Like many of my generation, I was drawn to the martial arts by the apparently amazing fighting prowess and gentle wisdom of the David Carradine character Caine in the 70's TV series Kung Fu. My ambition was/is to be Chuck Norris, but I still can't grow the full beard ? perhaps when I finally mature!

So much for the fantasy, my introduction to the 'real' martial arts was over 20 years ago, in my late teens, when I trained in a style called Shukokai. Sadly that club closed when my instructor moved away and after drifting around a few other clubs (unfriendly or intimidating) and styles including kick-boxing (brutal), I settled on being a cycling, squash playing husband and dad.

As Rafiki the wise old mandrill pointed out to Simba: life is a circle; and so it was that my son took up Tang Soo Do with Master Jacqui Fisher, my interest in martial arts was reawakened and as competitive dad, I enlisted shortly thereafter. My favourite aspects are unarmed self-defence and the fitness training; I love the continuous and impossible struggle to perfect ourselves in our martial art.

Time seems to have flown by (as it does as one gets older) and here I am now, 2nd Dan and an instructor (still working on the beard).

I teach classes in Coventry and whatever your age or previous experience, you are most welcome!
